rewarding yourself

So last weekend I had the chance to reward myself for a long and tough semester. Already being in Indonesia, I flew to Bali and spent 3 days just hanging out, reading, going to the beach, going to the spa and having some time to clear my mind. At the same time, I talked to a variety of people: backpackers, surfers, holidaymakers from all over the world. Brazilians, Americans, Australians, Canadians, Brits. The people who made the biggest impression on me were the backpackers, some of whom have been traveling for months. There was a great deal to learn from these people.

The fact of the matter is, it is always important to take oneself into consideration once in a while. No, it’s not selfish to pamper/indulge/reward yourself for hard, tough work that you’ve completed. It’s necessary. You know what’s best for you. Whatever it may be, a small gift, a day at the spa, a weekend trip to a lake house or just a day of sitting and reading, a relaxing activity is a great way to reward yourself and at the same time clean the slate for the upcoming stage.

In the next post I will discuss the lessons learned from these nomads of the world.

Amen to that 🙂 I believe in the saying “work hard, play hard” but afterwards, there’s got to be down time for just ME 🙂
